Silver quandong timber will be the focus of a field afternoon at Mowbray on Saturday, 14 May, 1pm, for people interested in growing and harvesting trees on farms. The guest speaker for the event will be Carol Neal, from Speciality Timber Growers, who works with a group of private growers in south-east Queensland to collectively harvest, process and sell plantation-grown silver quandong.

The event will be held on a private property planted with a variety of species that are approaching harvestable size, including silver quandong.  This fast-growing Australian native species has proven resilient to cyclones, and produces an attractive, pale coloured wood.

native timber plantationThere are many private plantations in North Queensland with trees large enough to produce timber, but private tree growers have limited opportunities to sell their logs for fair value.  This free event will provide a chance for growers to connect with one another and hear about a successful example of collaborative marketing.

Meet at 1 pm at the Craiglie rest area, just off the Captain Cook Highway, 1.5 km south of the Port Douglas turn off.  To register interest or for more information please
